Greetings, TugNuts.

We're glad to introduce a new section to the TugNuts, for discussion of Cutwater Boats. From the Forum Index, you'll see a new section with three discussion areas that mirrors what we have in place for Ranger Tugs:

Coming down the road a bit, we'll look into adding the extra Profile information and user photo albums for Cutwater owners, just as we do for Ranger Tug owners.

Feel free to follow up here if you have any questions, and one of the Ranger or Cutwater reps will help you out.

Thanks!

Bill

The joint is getting larger... Soon we will have to have a secret handshake just to get in the door...

I know the folks at Ranger Tugs are very busy this week but do wonder what kind of power the new Cutwater will have.
I see the hull has a radical design so will be interesting how it works out. Welcome new Cutwater folks. Bob Heselberg in Eatonville Wa

According to the new Cutwater website, the 26 is powered by a 180 HP Yanmar 4BY2 and the 28 sports a 260 HP Yanmar 6BY2.

Both boats drew lots of attention yesterday. In fact, once again, the Ranger Tug / Cutwater exhibit areas looked to be the busiest on the show floor.

Knowing the Livingstons, they will share as many components as possible on the 2 boat lines, I.E engines ,thrusters, underwater hardware, pumps, generators, electrical panels etc . That achieves better buying power, parts stock reduction and is one of the reasons they are as succesful as they have been and will continue to be in this business .

I am really interested in actual pictures of the Cutwaters. Anyone have any?

Did anyone shoot interior photos at the boatshow?

Pretty nice looking boat. I would love to see the interior too. Pretty funny that a boat named Cutwater doesn't actually have a cutwater installed.

We saw the boats yesterday in Seattle, and found this forum while searching for reviews on the boat. It has a beautiful interior, with quality finishes and an efficient layout. Seemed much roomier than other cruisers of the same size. I have interior shots on my cell; will try to download them later.

I never cease to be amazed at what the Livingstons come up with in designing and building boats. They aren't perfect, but surely do a great job all around. 😀

My first look at the photos of the Cutwater boats reminded me a lot of Ranger, a lot of carry over of design features, the swim platform with fenders, the cover over the door, etc.

The hull is interesting. The step feature is fairly common, the combination of other features causes me to be curious as to its handling. Probably excellent, the hull changes made to the R21EC were subtle. I can't see physical differences between the R21 and the R21EC, but the R21EC has a higher top speed.

The Cutwater line will probably do well. It's overall design seems more mainstream (for US consumers) than the tug/trawler design.

Hey, in the pictures in the Three Sheets NW article it does look like the Cutwater has a cutwater!

It looks awesome! 😱

Wondering if this boat in the photos are 26ft or 28ft?

Looks to be the 26. The 28 had a rear helm on the starboard side of the cockpit.

Saw the Cutwater boats at the boat show today. They obviously share alot with the Ranger lines and do look very similar inside. Seems like the interiors weren't completely finished though. (I.e. no door or privacy curtain for the v-birth.) I'm interested to see the final performance numbers, but one of the sales people said that the boat should do 30 knots. Looks like a great addition to the line, and provides an interesting option for those looking for a little more top-speed.

This came from one of the other threads:

...'the C26 with Yanmar 180 at 14 knots is burning about 4.6 gallons per hour, top speed 21-22 knots. The C28 with Yanmar 260 is 16 knots and burning 5.5 to 6 gallons per hour. Runs nice at 19-21 knots, top speed or WOT is 26-27 knots.'

For comparison: An Albin 30 FC, 34 feet LOA, 10,000 #, 10'beam, slightly more than 4' draft with the 315 Yanmar burns approx. 8 GPH at 14 knots, 12 GPH at 17 knots and 23 GPH at 25 knots. Those numbers are for a lightly loaded vessel in light conditions. Running at 6.5 knots, one will burn 2 GPH.
