D3 impeller O ring size

Every year I change the raw water impeller on our d3. If you’ve gone to the trouble of disassembly you may as well replace rather than inspect. In 5 years two O rings have been crossed during reassembly, once by me and once by a tech. (After the first time I swore never to cram myself into the hole under that step voluntarily again!). Now I have a number of perfectly good replacement spare impellers including one that is new. That one because I had to get a new impeller kit to get a new O ring. Has anyone measured that thin O ring or know the size? Any ideas on a source for replacement?

Volvo’s online parts lookup site suggests that the part number is 21397127. See https://www.volvopentashop.com/epc/...nes/M-D3-C/M-D3-C_2600/M-D3-C_2660/M-D3-C_077

But a quick lookup for that part at a couple of online parts sources suggests it’s “discontinued.” Weird. Double check to see if that is the correct part number (there are several iterations of most Volvo engines, including the D3s and D4s, but the basic parts are usually the same from one to the next). If that’s the right number, try calling one of the online Volvo parts sources or check with the factory or your local dealer.

Finally, I once was at the dock in Anacortes when I had to replace the O-ring on my top of the sea strainer. Lucky for me, Englund Marine was nearby. In a back room, they had several filing drawers of o-rings. It took about 15-20 minutes, but with the damaged o-ring for comparison, a very helpful parts guy went through the files methodically and found me a perfect match. I bought two or three (no surprise there). So, if you have an old one in decent shape, and a top end mechanical supply store, you may be able to find a good generic replacement.

I have a D3 impeller kit left over from owning my C26. I measured the O-rings. The small o-ring is a # 033 and the larger O-ring is a #141. I belief the o-ring material is Buna. You should be able to purchase this ring at any automotive store, Granger, McMaster-Carr. If any one needs a #21951352 Volvo OEM Impeller Kit I have one $50.00 I will ship in US Free.
