[My wife and I took delivery of our new R31 CB in mid April. We were determined to have an unobstructed view looking a stern. Here are a few pictures of how we mounted our dingy on the aft roof area . Sorry about the sideways pictures.....new user

That is a really nice set up that you have there. Must be nice having a clear view off the stern.

Have you noticed that the boat handles much differently with that weight up higher on the boat?

We also use those kayak J hooks on our boat to carry a couple of kayaks off the side of the flybridge.

Thanks,

John

Ya, it is nice not having the dingy on the back. As far as the handling, I’ve not noticed any change, the dingy & motor is around 240 lbs. We were in some fairly rough water crossing the Strait of Georgia a couple weeks ago and had no issues.
I like the j hooks as well.

Is that hard top standard on the 31? This would be a perfect solution for the R23, although it would have to be a smaller dinghy.

Yes it is a hard top. We were at the poets cove gathering last weekend, and someone who looked at it thought they may look at putting the dingy across the roof. I didn’t see any reason that wouldn’t work

Word of caution. I have similar J-Hooks on my CB (to carry kayaks) and recently noticed a number of stress fractures in the fiberglass where the railing mounts attach to the roof. It looked to me like the weight of the relatively heavy plastic kayaks was causing too much lateral stress on the attachment point. I have since replaced the plastic kayaks with lighter, inflatable kayaks-- which I hope avoids a larger problem down the road.

Thanks for the heads up. I took that into consideration when we purchased the kayaks. These are about 28 lbs each, which I think is similar to an inflated kayak, but I will definitely keep an eye on it.

Hi, what I am most interested in is the davit crane. Is it a custom design, how was it mounted, what was the cost?
How is the dingy mounted ? Does it interfere with the solar panel? Thanks in advance for the info. Bob
