The other day I saw a tug go by with a davit on the swim deck out back. I have a 2015 R-27, has anyone out something like this on their swim deck? Any extra re-enforcement? I was thinking of crabbing…. Thanks!

I have a 2019 R-29 CB with the standard weaver davits, but I’d really like something that lifts the dinghy out of the water so I can keep its engine on it and possibly gain some visibility back there.

So my question is pretty much the same — what are other folks using and will the swim platform support it without modification?

Hi,
I am using a Dinghy Butler it came on my used 2010 ranger tug R29. I have a 10'' aluminum rigid inflatable with center console probably 400 pounds. I will need to beef up the swim platform with bigger backing plates but the thing works great in or out of the water single handed in minutes.

If you are adding any weight, pay close attention to reinforcement of the swim step but also the existing hardware thru holes and make sure they are properly sealed. Mine were not, and my swim step has water in it. it will need to be removed and repaired here before too long. I put more 5200 on the suspect ones, but when I installed my crane for my outboard, water and wet plywood came out with the drill bit. I've seen a few good options for dinghies, but my favorite is an RKO davit with those cool dinghies from new zealand (can't remember the name brand).

This is exactly what I have - Rosskelley/Olsson davit with NZ Highfield aluminum bottom dinghy. I absolutely adore this setup, unobstructed view aft, and ease of backing in, launching/retrieving the dink. The biggest consideration is increase in LOA, you should count on adding ~4ft to your current LOA.

I love a good Highfield, but I was actually referring to this company, Offshore cruising tenders:

This is one cool dink and they have a dealer in Anacortes! Beautiful boats indeed.

Oddly, this is exactly what my next door neighbor here at DuSable (Chicago) has on his 2015 R-31. What a nice little boat! Olson davit, too. I think that davit is what I’m looking for.

I came across the setup recently from the tugnuts facebook group. This might be the same guy/boat:
