Day on the Bay

Last weekend (alright the weekend before last) was Fleet Week here on San Francisco Bay. I took my brother, nephew, and my son out to see the Blue Angels, etc. As usual the wind kicked up and I think there was a small craft advisory in the PM but Aurora handled it all beautifully. My passengers got the best view since I stayed at the helm but thanks to all the windows - I saw plenty.

I was again impressed at what a comfortable and user-friendly boat we have here. I could have done the same thing on our last boat and we would have been unpleasantly bumped around. There were lots of bigger boats out there but I doubt many of them get trailered to the PNW. I have a lot of gratitude for the boating opportunities that my wife and I have gotten, and hopefully will have in the future. I also am grateful to be part of an upbeat and pleasant owner's group and forum. I'm sure that many of you feel the same way.

I was hoping to get some pictures from my brother - maybe later.

Your next adventure is an EVENING on the Bay. Watch the Giants clinch the title this weekend from McCovey Cove. See my earlier post on this.

We were out for Fleet Week/Blue Angels and didn't see you. We were up near the Golden Gate Bridge on the edge of the fog, though. Never mind a few thousand boats in the way, with some going aground on Alcatraz, others crashing into each other, and Channel 16 the most entertaining it's been in a long time. Including: "Coast Guard, I have a dead body attached to my anchor." Don't know if you were listening when that one came in.

And yes, we have very sturdy boats! San Francisco Bay is an exercise in nautical Darwinism. Natural selection favors our Ranger Tugs because they can take it when that place delivers it. It sinks or disables the rest. And boy can it deliver it. Best place to leak test a boat. After four crossings of Georgia Straits in sketchy conditions, we have decided that San Francisco Bay on a summer afternoon (25 kt wind) with roaring ebb tide is as entertaining as it gets.

I think that I would prefer the Bay to Georgia Strait when it's "sketchy". Of course I don't usually hang out under the Golden Gate.

This was on Saturday and I don't remember any bodies on anchors. The only time I was in a more crowded situation was in our C-Dory when they were running the America's Cup. I don't think that we are dedicated enough for Covey Cove but I am looking forward to my first evening trip. What really impressed me is to see all those folks anchored on the west side of Alcatraz. I wonder how comfortable they were?

Is Tugnacious in a marina or does she live on a trailer? I bet that I've seen you around.
