Is there any need to add defrosting fans for the front windows on the 25??? We just ordered a new 25 at the Seattle boat show....yea!!!!...and will probably be a regular on this site....thanks for all of your input!! We need it? 😀

It sure would be helpful. We need them in Alaska. I couldn't get them to install them on mine when I ordered. Hopefully they will now.

I've seen them on other tugs at the rendezvous, so some folks here could make recommendations. But, we've boated here in the Puget Sound in every month of the year (although not in every weather condition) and haven't yet needed them.

Cheers

We don't get a lot of frost here in south MS but i use rainex antifog on the inside and have never had a problem

I mounted a computer fan and switch above the window on my R21 and it works good but not real pretty. A low cost answer may be a unit from Harbor Freight that is heated. I bought one but the computer fan worked so I left it.

A defrosting fan? No. A de-fogging fan? YES...... Maureen and I have had Karma in the PNW now since November. We use her in all kinds of weather. Spray over the bow is very common....... Once that cold water starts hitting the windows, they fog immediately. I have recently discovered a way to "hang" two small twelve volt fans from the overhead hatches. In this manner, we can direct the airflow to where ever we need it. They are not permanently mounted so we just stow them when not needed.

We are in Vegas this weekend so I cannot take a picture and post. I will do so next week when we are back "Home".

Opening a window helps also. The problem is..... when the spray is flying, you don't want the windows open!

We had two 6" fans installed during construction. Bought them at West Marine. Have used them both for de-fogging and to cool the helmsman's face in hot weather. Work well. Even if you don't want fans right away, have the wiring and switch installed for at least two.

Thanks for your comment on this issue Lyman. I was going to ask you what you had done in this matter. I talked to Howard at the Monroe plant last night and he is ordering two fans for us and they will install them as she is going together . (good timing on this form) Just over two weeks to go 😀

We mounted to Caframo 12 volt fans in the Laurie Ann for defogging and summer time cooling. We put one mounted to the overhead storage area on the port side and put the other above the Wallas Stove by replacing the light we never used with a fan that we use.

This is our second set of fans. The first set were the cheaper fans and were noisy. You can identify them because they are fully encased in a plastic protective cage. The higher quality ones are very quiet and look like a propeller on a plan with any guard. If you touch the fan, the blade stops without any damage or pain. Pretty cool product, literally. We bought them on sale for $35 each.

They are also directional and have two speeds. We found them quite easy to install.

You're right...defogging is much more appropriate. We appreciate the input fro all of you and I will talk with Jeff about it and probably have them put in as the boat is being built. Thanks again. See you on the water.

We have a Caframo fan mounted above the helm in Tug O' War. They are a little bit pricey, but, worth every penny. We tried less expensive fans but they were noisey, did not last very long, and did not move much air. When the windshield begins to fog in cold weather, the Caframo fan clears it quickly. This fan moves a lot of air for it's size and is very quiet.

Hi Gang--On Gabriela we use a couple of fans from auto supply stores. One is mounted to wood above the windshield, other is a clamp type like a big clothespin. We often leave them on all night for circulation and backround noise. They cost less than $20.00 each. lbrown

You can get the same $20.00 fan on a giant clothes pin at Wal-Mart for $8.00. And, if background noise is what you are looking for, they provide penty of it.

I like the way you put that! 🙂
