I've searched here but can't find the answer: I want to use the stern rod holders for mounting downriggers and need to know what is the depth of the standard rod holders on the R27 for ordering the rod holder mounts (they come 9" or 12"). I'm waiting for boat delivery so can't measure.

Also I am very open to any advice/suggestions about mounting downriggers on my R27.

Thanks.

The rod holders on our 2014 R27 are 8" deep. They are at an angle so they actually are 7.5" deep forward and 8.5" deep aft.

Our boat came with Scotty rail mounts and 12v power plugs for downriggers from the previous owner. The Scotty rail mounts attach to the rail at the first forward vertical post on each side of the boat. Downriggers power plugs are in the liner just below the gunwale below the mounts.

Rail mounts are like this.

I have removed them as we don't fish.

I have a 2015 R27 and the railing interferes with trying to use the rod holder mount. Rail mount works great with Scotty downrigger and 12# and less weight. Tried to use 15# and it was to much stress in the rail.

Thanks much no re-Gret for the advice and Red Raven for the link! You just saved me a bit of frustration and gear return. The rail mount looks like the ticket and I was thinking of using the Scotty swivel base on the mount as well.

You sound like someone who can actually catch fish as compared to me who just goes fishing! We just bought a 2017 R25SC with the same rail mounts. I was looking at fitting my old manual Canon manual downrigger so the info. about the weight is great, thank you. I am also looking at drilling and mounting a Scotty mount for my rod holder or pulley (manual) to help with prawning. Any experience there?

I know the topic of trolling speed is addressed elsewhere but a drogue is just too much to handle with everything else when single handing. Any other ideas?

Thanks
