Planning our first trip to Desolation Sound for Summer 2020.
Super envious of all the wonderful photos of fish, crab and butter clams.
Can anyone tell me where they fish, crab & clam?
Best places anchor as well.

Thank you.

I'll start this off and suspect you'll get quite a few responses, at least to the question of best places to anchor.

Last year we went on the RT cruise to DS. They take you to Gorge Harbour and cut you loose for your own exploration. Having never been there before, we, like you, wanted insight into places to go from the eyes of seasoned cruisers. I googled DS anchorages and got a number of responses, but chose Tugnuts' very own Trailer Trawler Life (Jim & Lisa Favors). They've been there several times and have a very well documented blog of the places they stayed. I highly recommend it for starters!

There some really good publications: The Waggoner Cruising Guide, Dreamspeaker Cruising Guide Desolation Sound & The Discovery Islands, and Best Anchorages of the Inside Passage.

Regarding fishing spots, find "where the boats are" is a good place to start. Sutil Channel, Lewis Channel and Waddington Channel are good places to look. There's also Campbell River to Port Hardy Fish-n-Map.

Have a great time in DS! Fabulous cruise!

I didn’t get them myself but I know folks that have dug clams (steamer type as I recall probably little necks) in or near the lagoon behind Manson’s Landing just SE of Gorge Harbor.

Thank you Bob and Curt.
Good info.

Hi All,
Reviving this thread to see if there have been updates in the past few years. Particularly crab and shrimp--wondering what gear to bring along.
Thanks!!
