Diamond Sea Glaze on windows

Is it safe to apply Rain-X to the Diamond Sea Glaze Window of my 2009 Ranger Tug? The salt water spray leaves spots etc on the windows making it difficult to see. The product label says not to use on surfaces treated with anti-reflective, scratch resistant or other coatings. If it is not safe to use can you recommend a similar product that is safe to use on my windows. (Rain-X is distributed by Sopus Products, P.O.Box 4427, Houston, TX 77210-4427.) I've been using RainX for three years now with no problem that I have noticed on our R25. It works excellent, as I am sure others on this forum will tell you. If I am travelling a lot on a given day or I know it is going to be a little rough I make sure I do a fresh application. The glass is tempered and tinted and, if a glaze is applied, it is done at a very high temperature to I don't think RainX will have any effect, as experience shows.

The glazing seems to refer to the amount of tinting in the window http://www.diamondseaglaze.com/upload/t ... ptions.pdf . The hardness of the glass is the result of tempering. The quality of their glass is excellent. Much better then a car's glass, where RainX is usually used.

We apply Rain-X regularly to the windows on our R-21. It works wonders, even in saltwater.

The only thing left to do now is devise a fresh water window rinse system. Has anyone done this? Actually, my wish list also includes an intermitant wiper control as well. Two wiper switches have been replaced so far. Yes, even with the rain-X, we still need those wipers.

We've been using Rain-X on the Diamond Sea Glaze windows on our CD-25 for 4 years now; no issue. We also use vinegar water when cruising to clean the salt spray off the windows... just put some vinegar in some water in a squeeze bottle.

FRESH WATER WINDOW WASH SYSTEM

I've found this system to work well. Very adaptable to all models and price well within range.


Supplies:
1 x coffee cup (tea cup can also work well)
1 x "some" fresh water

Process:
1. Open starboard helm side window
2. Throw water on front window
3. Repeat as necessary, expanding toss to cover 2nd window.
4. Repeat from Port side.
5. Put Gin in cup. Rinse out. Option -- drink gin!

Cost:
1. Gin --

Cautions:
1. Hold onto cup when tossing water.
2. Do not repeat #5 - Option - above if under way.

Easy window cleaning method that keeps the Rain-X intact:

Use a small squeegee from an auto parts store that has a the scrubber on one side. Dip in fresh water, scrub the windows, squeegee off the water but wipe the squeegee off with a towel after every swipe.

Method also works on the cabin and hull to take off most of the dried on salt without using much fresh water, great when you at anchorage.

I use Ranex without difficulty but I much prefer Dave's method which I will use in future, perhaps substituting gin with Scotch!

Here is a LINK to the AFI washer system on the WM Website. No mention of Scotch. I believe Single Malt will be most effective. And, if you have enough, you can't tell if the windows need washing or not!! :mrgreen:

Darn, I just went down to LENABELL and looked at the windows. You are correct if viewed after the use of a couple "single malts" the glass does look much clearer. Or is just every thing else is more fuzzy.

You Junior Officers will never take direction!! :mrgreen: Got to have the correct malt too, at least 12 years old, any old Glen ** will do however.
