A fuel attendant at a fuel dock splashed my transom with a good bit of diesel while filling us up. I didn't want to simply rinse the spilled fuel overboard so I soaked up as much as I could with heavy-duty paper towels and went on about my business. Now, two weeks later, there's a hard yellow crust all over my transom where the fuel dried. I scratched at it with my fingernail and wasn't able to remove much, so now I'm pretty nervous.

Will this clean up easily? What product(s) should I use?

Steve,
Very sorry to hear about the fuel spill. I have used a 3M cleaner wax that I bought at West Marine. It has done a great job at getting my gel coat cleaned up from red stains from being under a cedar tree to pollen and bird droppings left on for a excessive time. Hope it works for you. I have also heard of good luck using bar keepers friend on stains. I would definitely wax after using that!

I'd think you could remove it with a rag dampened with diesel. Fight fire with fire or something like that.
