Just wanted to say how much I enjoy my diesel heater .. Anchored out in a bay too cold for all the normal boaters at 40 degrees, the heater is idling along, beautiful sunset no boats just had a great dinner and snug as a bug in a rug .. 🙂 if your on the fence about a heater go for it. It makes it so enjoyable in the fall and spring..and these cool summer nights...that and my two anchors set, it will be a great night 🙂

Sounds fabulous!!

I have only had Spinner over one winter now, but have enjoyed some nice late fall and winter cruising! Let's hear it for the diesel heater!!

I am seriously considering installing Webasto aftermarket into my R-31. How cold of weather do you continue to operate with your diesel heater?

Corey

As cold as it gets in the Seattle area! Sometimes below freezing.....

Do you winterize your water lines (fresh and backwater) for those freezing temp encounters?

Corey

We were out in a snow storm last year anchored in the bay here. After it was on the trailer we used it the odd weekend and spent a night in very below freezing weather at the marina . There is frost warning tonight here.. Nice in the boat watching a movie 🙂

I had a shutoff and drain installed in the bilge that let's me shut off the water to the cockpit sink, and drain just that part of the system. When at the dock, I have an engine room heater going in the engine area, and a hatch opened inside the cabin. I also keep two of the round low heat dehumidifier devices going in the cabin.

No need to drain and winterize, and I can keep using the boat.

Thank goodness for (relatively) mild NW winters!

How noisy is your heater? We had a Wallas on our C-Dory but it made enough noise that I wouldn't sleep with it on. On a cold night I would wake up and run the heater for awhile then go back to bed. I'm kind of a light sleeper though.

it's not noisy, but I can't run it all night - the boat would be too hot!

We had a CD22 with a Wallas and later changed to a Webasto 2000. It was definately not as loud as the Wallas. Plus you can hide it away in a locker somewhere to dampen the noise even more. Though I'm afraid no one can advise you as to whether it is still too loud for you to sleep. They do come with a long cable for the controls so that you can mount the heater in one location and put the controls right by the berth if so desired so one could turn it on/off in the middle of the night without getting up. You can also mount the pump elsewhere (like in the engine room) and pipe the fuel to the heater thereby reducing noise even more.

Mine is a Russian Planner heater it is very quiet just the noise of the air coming out of the vents If I listen hard I can hear the clicking of the pump in the engine room pushing diesel into it..
