Good Evening,

Hope all of you are doing well.

I am looking for a source for a diesel jerry can I can bring aboard when I cruise to the Bahamas.I see other cruisers with yellow 5 gallon cans but I haven’t had the chance to ask where they got them.

Appreciate assistance. Stay safe!

Mike

Amazon.com has yellow plastic 5 gal fuel cans, but they're not the Jerry Can type, they are lower and fatter.
Walmart on line has actual yellow steel Jerry Cans, but they aren't cheap.
In a saltwater environment, I would go with plastic.

We used 3 of the yellow 5 gallon plastic cans on our trip up the Inside Passage last year. The ones I chose (Mid West Can model 8600) were from Ace Hardware. An added bonus is all three fit perfectly stored empty on the Classic R27 cabin roof under the solar panel secured with a single bungee to the rails. When full we kept them in the cockpit until we had used 15 gallons from the tank and then emptied the cans into the fuel tank and put them on the roof.

The yellow plastic containers I have came from Lowe’s or Home Depot. Can’t remember which one, but either should have them.

Just to be sure that you know, the Bahamas at this time are closed to inbound pleasure craft.

I prefer using a sturdy leakproof steel can. Uline.com has a 5 gallon can (made by Justrite). It's part number H-1850Y. I use the same can, but smaller for gasoline.

My preference is a five gallon yellow ‘Surecan’. A little more expensive but well worth the convenience with the spigot. Fuel my RT21EC with that getting diesel from Costco.
