Diesel smell .phew!

Hello, I get sick just smelling diesel smoke from the 18 wheeler next to me at the light, will I have this problem on a
Ranger tug 21 ec ?

I never really smell diesel from my 21ec. It’s faint, if ever.

I would think we all have a different tolerance to smell. The only way to verify yours is to sea trial one and see if it works for you! I will say with the wet exhaust I don't notice the diesel fumes and most of my boating is trolling speed while fishing. I hope it works out for you! Maybe a good name for your boat would be (STINKY)

I have a 21ec with the Volvo engine. I think I have a reasonable sense of smell. (No COVID yet) I can honestly say I have NEVER smelled a trace of diesel exhaust. It has always amazed me, since I have owned several diesel vehicles and boats, and they all made some smell. I don't think it will be an issue for you.

I don't think it burns enough fuel to give off a diesel smell. haha. Seriously though, it's never been an issue for me but as Bob says if you are "really" sensitive your best bet would be to go out on one.

I can't comment specifically about a 21 but I would note (1) that although I never smell diesel when going forward, I often pick some up when warming up and backing out of a slip. (2) I cannot control other boats in a marina or anchorage, and may pick up diesel from them. For example if a neighboring slip is running their engine in order to power their alternator, it might drift over to us.

It has never really bothered me, but that varies I'm sure (I am very sensitive to perfume and understand the concern!)

I'd suggest taking one out, as suggested, and ideally a couple of nights in places you might want to go.

Having used 4 stroke outboards for many years I was concerned about the smell of diesel also. My C-28 is the first diesel boat I have ever owned. Can honestly say I never smell it. My slip neighbors are surprised too. They say they don't hear it or smell it. My MASE generator is another story 😉 .

The Volvo D-4 is more refined than many diesels found in trucks. Common rail fuel injection. Electronic controls. Gotta love those hydraulic lifters.

We did plenty of twists and turns in varying wind and wave conditions when we did the test ride.
