I'm sure there's going to be people who want to know the differences between the standard R-25 and the new R-25 SC (SC="Sports Cockpit" as best I know).

First, I'm no expert at this time and my knowledge is limited to what I observed during the 2010 Seattle Boat Show which was not a lengthy visit.

1. First off is the extra length in the SC's cockpit. I'm told it's 16" longer than the standard R-25.

2. The above means the SC's cabin is shorter by 16" compared to the standard R-25. The first indication of this that the large table surface covering the "cave" in the standard R-25 is about half the size in the SC. The covering also operates differently. On the SC it hinges up and rotates forward and ends up over the rear seat facing the dinette table. Could be a nuisance if someone is sitting in that seat. There's no cloths hanger as best I could see. Entry into the cave is still acceptable IMO.

3. There are no big red switches in the Cave on the SC. All switches in the SC are located in the cockpit's port side storage area forward of the battery bay. This storage area also hinges toward midships and serves as a seat with a padded cushion.

4. Upholstery design in the SC IMO is nicer than what I have in my 2010 R-25. 🙂

5. The Yanmar display unit on the SC sits higher on the console than in my R-25. This is a great improvement as I'm sure everyone agrees the Yanmar display isn't the easiest display to read when out on the water.

6. In the cockpit area the step downs in the gunwales are GONE!!!! Strangely enough, this was the very first thing I noticed when stepping into the SC.

7. There's more padded cockpit seating in the SC than in the standard R-25 and is at a better height.

8. The exterior overhang above the cabin door in the SC is much longer.

9. On the SC the access to the rudder mechanism is vastly improved and is provided by a lid (fish bait bowl) removal under the stern seating.

10. On the SC there's more access to the complete 150HP Yanmar engine thru the cockpit's engine cover.

11. Some Galley surface area in the SC has been lost. This is significant and noticeable.

12. Two of the side windows in the SC are now vertical opening rather than horizontal opening on the standard R-25.

13. Spice rack in the standard R-25 is missing in the SC.

14. The head/shower in the SC appears to be more spacious than on the standard R-25 -- and I'm hard pressed to figure out this or why!!!!

15. Swim step on SC has been completely overhauled. It's solid looking (meaning there are no slits in it) and it has the small fenders surrounds the rear edges.

16. I'm no fisherman, but I believe there are extra supports for down-riggers on the gunwales and one was installed on the SC at the boat show (I think).

17. I looked at the SC's hull and to me it looks as if it's different from my R-25. This needs to be confirmed.

18. There's a small Microwave under the forward port side cabin seat. If this means the normal/standard storage area in that spot which is vast has gone that IMO is a shame.

19. Diesel cap is located in a much better location and has been moved toward the starboard side on the transom. Not all the way over but far enough to be easier to fuel IMO.

Well that is all I recall and I wish I had taken photos.

This thread can be extended by others who want to post what they see as differences between the R-25SC and the standard R-25.
