On our wish list for our R25SC has been a light for over the dinette table. We finally came up with the solution. Dan moved the fixture that was under the cave to the wall space between the two forward windows and replaced the cave light with a LED fixture that takes up less space. We love that the dinette light matches the galley fixture and takes up little space. You can see what we did on our photo blog, www.bioaquatics.com/hokukai under the May 31 entry. The new light looks like it belongs, we are so happy with it!

A great idea! Where did you tie in the electric? We will probably follow suit, but may not get it done until later this summer.

We tapped into the un-switched DC source supplying the cave light, which as noted was replaced with a LED dome light. There may be a DC source further forward, but I couldn't track it down. I drilled a small hole through the fiberglass panel above and slightly portside of the mounting plate for the cave light. This allowed a wire (20 ga 2 strand marine grade) to be passed forward and behind the teak veneer, and up through a grooved molding to a mounting block for the "new" fixture. The veneer is very thin so the mounting block was glued rather than being fastened with screws. Except for working in the confined corner of the cave, it was a relatively painless task.
