We are days away from closing on our R29. Can you help us with davit system information for a RIB. Our tug will have propane tanks on the swim platform. We also have two labrador retrievers that will use the platform. Have any other R29ers installed systems that still allow access to the swim platform with the dinghy in the davits?

Our now 3 week old R29 has the davits you are looking for. We have the Ranger provided tender and use Weaver davits that lift the tender about six inches up and away from the back of the swim platform. We have full use of the platform. I had Weaver davits on our previous boat also and they work out great.

We have a 29 as well with the Weaver davits but no propane locker on the swim grid. It is a great system but you may want a winch to lift the dinghy out of the water. The winch attaches to the aft cabin wall on the port side of the entry door.

Congratulations. We have the factory installed Weaver Davits and stand-offs. The dinghy is easy to deploy and secure, and we have good access to the swim step. It is completely open when the dinghy is down, and the starboard side is open aft of the cockpit door when it is up.

We've found lifting the dinghy with lines at each end is fast and easy. We don't use the hand winch, even though we had one installed. It's noisy, and inefficient because of where it has to be mounted. The lever has a very short range and only pulls a few inches of line with each throw. It can also be a knuckle banger.

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce:

What are the stats on your dinghy and motor?

What is the specific model for those factory installed Weaver davits? There seem to be a lot of variations and I can't find ones that are pictured in your post. Thanks! We have a Cutwater 30CB and have been looking for exactly that setup.

If you want a hardshell dinghy, look at my post from last year in owner's customization:
search: "weaver davits for hard shell dinghy"

I sold that dinghy so if you are thinking "hard shell" pm me as I have all the hardware.

if thinking inflatable, you should still look at that post as it will look very similar. the weaver hardware is just different.

The weaver link above is the right swim platform side of the setup - at least for our C-28. The C-28 uses the full 4” up and 4” back of that davit set. Weaver seems familiar with our boats and could probably confirm the exact set up needed for your R-29.
For our C-28 the standoffs were double end clips, adjustable, 42-48”. That length may or may not work for the R-29 but I imagine you would want clips on both ends of the stand-off rods regardless.
