Just bought a Yamaha 2.5 and a mount to store it on the back of my R27. Bought it from Port Boat House and they delivered it today. This isn’t what I expected to receive and I’m not sure how it mounts!!! Email to PBH was not answered today.

This is supposed to go on the back side of the propane locker.
Does the pad shown go on the inside of the propane locker to support and strengthen the fiberglass?
I’m used to seeing motors mount onto the pads but the pad I received is sized for the larger end with the bolt holes which has to go into the boat?
Anyone know how this mounts? I received only the two pieces shown.

Closing the loop, the motor does rest on the pad at the larger end. I need to drill holes in the smaller end mounting plate - lugs pass through the transom into the propane locker. I’ll support the bolts with a plate and big washers. Should be straightforward, having to drill holes in the bracket threw me for a loop.

DD,
I bought the same Yamaha engine.
I recently mounted the tender on the Weaver davit system, but have not figured out where to mount the Yamaha.
I’d be grateful if you could follow up with “after” pics showing how it works.
Thank you in advance.

I too was faced with the challenge of how and where to mount my dinghy motor on my RT 27ob. I had initially used an electric motor for the dinghy and found it easy to store inside the port lazarette (no oil, no fuel). However, range anxiety meant distance/time is very limited. So, i purchased a 2.5hp yamaha.
The boat came with a dinghy lift and the standard dinghy motor mount provided by PBH with the 2.5hp could not be properly positioned along the transom area. Eventually, I ordered the mount that Ranger Tugs uses with their factory setup.
Yes, holes have to be drilled but what is crucial is to beef up the backside of the transom wall. Mine has a space ( a few inches) between the transom wall and the propane locker, so putting a plate inside the propane locker wall will not properly support the dinghy motor.

Re AGLyme's RT31cb query, check out Red Raven's gallery https://www.tugnuts.com/media/users/red-raven.2946/page-5), or a pivoting bracket attached directly to the dinghy transom.

@tedli357, do you have any photos of your mount? What do you mean that the mount PBH could not be properly positioned? Is the one that didn’t work for you the same as the one in the photo above? Did it not work with the dinghy lift or was it not a suitable mount for the boat with that motor?

Hi, I initially received the mount you pictured, but because the boat came with the factory dinghy lift, I had difficulty positioning the mount/bracket properly to my satisfaction with the lift pulled up. So, I decided to purchase the factory motor mount and follow RT's method.

I don't have a picture of the install but can get you one in the next day or two

@tedli357 - thank you. I went to the boat (not close!) tonight to see what the situation is. The transom wall and the propane locker wall are much thinner than what I envisioned and I struggle to see how the mount I have will hold a 40lb motor without flexing and stretching the holes. Then what a mess!!!!

I’ll watch for the photos. Many thanks! I wish that there was a good rail to mount a block on too - R27s don’t have the rails we need!!!

Thank you Ted

@tedli357 thank you so much. That’s the one I’ve been looking for and what I thought PBH was selling me. The photos are very clarifying. Thank you. Do the bolts pass through right into the propane locker?

No, there is a space between the transom wall and the propane locker wall. It is within this space that one should be putting reinforcement for the transom wall. I strongly suggest having someone familiar with fiberglass work do the reinforcing for you; that space in between is quite tight.

Btw, I have seen the type of mount you received from PBH successfully mounted on another RT27ob without a dinghy lift.

Thanks @tedli357 , I’m getting the mount that you have. Thanks for the direction.

Question: did your mount require the same fiberglass work? I’ll make sure mine is done correctly - just not sure what that is. Also want to make sure it’s put in a location that won’t interfere with the dinghy lift should we get one (we want one).

I think you should first consult PBH or RT regarding installing a dinghy lift at a later date. There might be some reinforcements required to beef up the swim platform just like the need to reinforce behind the transom wall where the dinghy motor mount is to be located.
