Sandi and I are the proud owners of Shared Dream. Shared Dream, a Ranger 29, was delivered on April 24 and is the first boat to incorporate the Pacer Lift. The Pacer Lift is a new davit that provide the lifting power for Dinghy or kayak storage on the roof of the tug. We have received a couple of inquiries, so we thought it would be useful to post our installation of the Pacer Davit on our new Ranger 29, Shared Dream. We wanted to have the flexibility that a dinghy provides, but didn’t want to look at it hanging on the stern of our boat. We are pleased to report that the lift works very well and that the deployment or lifting of the inflatable is a one person operation. This was key for us as we wanted it to be very easy and ensure that we would use the inflatable.
As you can see from the pictures (search "Shared Dream - Pacer Lift"), we are lifting the inflatable with the outboard attached.
We originally saw the Pacer davit at the Seattle boat show and worked through a prototype lift at the show. Since then, there have been a couple of structural improvements that are incorporated on the one we have installed. The lift works by sliding to starboard on the large rails to lower or raise the dinghy, then back to port to stow the dinghy. In the fully stowed position, the lift sits on the port side with the dinghy stowed on the starboard side. No additional structural modification were necessary to the boat. The remaining item on the agenda is to have a cover completed to keep rain out of the dinghy and provide temporary storage for light items (eg. Trash, covers,etc.)
