 Hi Tugnuts,
We could use a little help, we have an R-25 on order and have started to acquire add-ons for our boat. We live on the panhandle of Florida and plan to cruise the coast down to the Keys in the winter. We have plenty of offshore fishing experience, but are new to cruising and need your help. Could you recommend a tender/motor for us? Also, include where you store them when traveling long distances.  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same boat with the same issue. I have done some research on this and came up empty. Please keep me in the loop if you come up with any solutions. It would be great if they came up with the same rack they have for the 27. Thanks
 
You might look at a Takacat 300 LX with a 6hp Yamaha outboard.
"Let's go channel surfing" on you tube has a good way to store his dingy on his 27.
 
Look at” Expedition Sea Nest”on YouTube. They have lots of great info about cruising with a R25.
 
I have a Highfield UL 240 mounted on Weaver snap davits.

The Highfield is easy to move around, accommodates two people well, three when you need to. Aluminum portion of the hull tracks well. I use it with a Suzuki 1.5 HP, which is very light at 31 pounds.

I recently added the Weaver snap davits, I'm very happy with them.

Can you share a picture of your setup with the Weaver snap davits? There are a few other folks with R25s who are wondering if this will work on our boats

If you have pix on Google Photos, you can open the pix, SHARE, CREATE LINK, COPY LINK and then paste it into this thread. I would like to see pix as well.
You can also CREATE AND ALBUM, put the pertinent photos into the ALBUM and then Share the album per above.
I would like to see photos too ... I have the catches on the stern swim step but seems awkward. Maybe my visualization is just off. Thx. Hope this helps
 
i went with a takacat 260 sport (closed bow) to match my 8'6" beam originally. It was a PVC boat. It lasted 5 years before all the seams disintegrated. (it was stored outside inflated all the time) . I think I was the first ranger/cutwater owner to get a takacat.

It was incredibly light and easy to lift on my weaver davits with 4 inch risers. This was paired with a suzuki 2.5 as its the lightest outboard available that's water cooled.

the whole theme was about getting something as light as possible and it worked great. the takacat has attachable wheels which makes beach excursions easy as you can roll the dinghy up the beach

I have since "upgraded" to a highfield 260UL RIB in Hypalon with the same engine. for a RIB its amazing how light this boat is. its slightly harder to pull up on the davits but I can still do it by myself. I've very pleased with the quality. with a deep v hull its a slightly bigger step into the dinghy from the boat but its much more seaworthy
Hypalon boats are about twice the price of PVC but last longer if outside all the time.

the other benefit of the 2.5 engine is I can carry this into the dinghy and don't need an engine hoist.
 
It is possible that the replies you are getting regarding a Weaver davit system for mounting a dinghy on the swim platform don’t understand that you are getting a R-25 OB. The replies suggesting a davit system seem to be coming from folks with inboard diesel boats. I am concerned that a Weaver davit system for a R-25 OB would not provide clearance between the dinghy and your outboard engine even with the Clear Path swim platform or at best would not let you raise the engine with the dinghy in place. I can also envision issues with how long (5-6 ft long??) the two standoffs would need to be to work with the Clear Path swim step. i would recommend talking to RT about the feasibility and/or limitations of mounting a dinghy on the swim platform your new R-25 OB.
I’ve never owned a Takacat but know other owners who do and like them. Also, “roll up” dinghys with slat floors or air floors can be stored in the “engine bay/bilge” area when not in use.

I had a typo in my original post replay, I have the Suzuki 2.5 HP.

I do have an inboard diesel, not an outboard. So I have the Weaver Davits for that kind of vessel. May not be relevant to the original question. I can still post a picture if its helpful. LMK.

If indeed the R-25 is an outboard model, I seem to recall that Fluid Motion had a solution. I remember it being sort of a rack that moved the dingy up over the cockpit?

Yes, I believe you are correct glider4. Penaltybox another RT25 OB owner has a post down below asking that specific question on using Weaver Davits. (installing weaver davits on a ranger tug r25 outboard) I do realize the issue/concern of the OB hitting the Dinghy if it is raised. another issue is will there be enough room for the OB to turn and not hit the dinghy. Also, will there be clearance for OB exhaust? I would only use this setup for traveling and not having to deflate it or have it in the cockpit. Once we arrive at our destination I would put it back in the water so I could raise the OB etc.
 
 
Ranger has their Dingy Lift system with Dingy available for the R25 OB. It works great.

No it’s actually available for the R25OB and I believe it’s also available to retrofit to older R25OB unlike the R27OB. I’m not certain how far back you can retrofit so contact the factory for more information.
I do have the lift system and dingy on my R25OB.

Following up on this older thread - is anyone aware what the cost is to add the lift to a R25 (that does not have the cutout for the kicker motor?)
