We have a new RT 31CB with a factory installed dingy on the aft side of the swim mount. There are two metal support rods that attach on the starboard/topside of the dingy and to two mounts located on the aft cockpit wall. While it is relatively easy to duck under the dingy support rods empty handed, sometimes it is a burden when hands are full. Wondering if anyone has relocated the cockpit wall mounts to a higher position using the cockpit roof? It appears the two mounts could be added to the backside of the cockpit roof, or even on top of the roof. This would seem to a better location, raising the rods up rather than down, and making movement on the swim platform more easily.

Erik, that is an interesting idea that I had not thought of. I am going to look into moving the supports to hardtop. I think it would give you a lot more access to the swimstep area.

You might need a custom rod. I believe the Weaver Standoffs only go up to 36 inches.

The we need better access to swim step I disconnect the starboard stand-off from the stern mount and just swing it up and across the dinghy. It will just sit there until you chose to reconnect or need to get underway.

NorCal, let me know if you go ahead with relocation of the support rods. While I like Bruce and Vicki's solution, I'd like something full time. I think Sue is correct that a longer rod would be needed, thought the same thing when I was trying it out.
