Curious if anyone has tried this setup for when they want tv…mainly I am thinking for college football. Can easily move it on and off the boat….use it at marinas so would set the dish on the dock…can pay for various “packages” from Dish network on a monthly basis.
(I’m concerned that trying to stream live games using ipad and marina wifi may not work)

I think so long as you aren't planning to use this on your boat (where you would have gimbaling issues), you could make it work. From the dock, my only concern would be about whether you can get it high enough to see the satellites. You'd probably want to mount it high up.

Oh yes I would only be able to use it where the dish itself was on stable ground (dock)...so only when at a marina.
As far as the height of the dish they say it needs a "clear view" of the southern sky.

I’m hoping starlink for boats gets released soon, supposedly by end of year. Then you can stream whatever you want to. I’m installing the fixed version tomorrow on the Oregon coast, am very curious to see if it works as advertised

I've used it out in the Methow valley. I can confirm the results are nothing short of spectacular -- the cabin we were in went from 2mpbs DSL to 50-100mbps with latency low enough for multiple video calls. Where did you see an end of year timeline?

On the one of the Reddit pages, there is a new smaller dish that they are seeking fcc approval for. Apparently that is to support mobile installations. No firm date, just a request for fcc to approve it soon. Still won’t work mid ocean yet, but that is planned in a couple of years. Am not planning to take my c-288 mid ocean any time soon (never) but coastal waters should be fine

The new dish is .48 meters wide

To expand its assessment of the end-to-end capabilities of its satellite system, SpaceX seeks authorization to expand these operations to include special temporary authority to operate user terminals on board vehicles and vessels near Hawthorne, CA and Redmond, WA. These operations would occur on vehicles within 250 km of each city as well as aboard seagoing vessels in U.S. territorial waters within 250 km. Such authority would enable SpaceX to obtain critical data regarding the operational performance of its user terminals and the SpaceX NGSO system more broadly.

They asked for that at the end of June, it has been approved

We used a Dish Tailgater on our boat (a C-Dory 25) while we lived on it, when working for a whale watch company in Friday Harbor, in the San Juan Islands. It worked great. I had concerns about the 10' tidal swings, but that turned out to be a non-issue. We first used it on the dock (I made a platform for it, triangle-shaped to fit in a corner, to keep it out of the walk-way) - the issue there is occasionally people would stop to look at it and block the signal. I later put it on top of our boat, which eliminated the people-blocking problem.

While we bought the Tailgater to use with the 5th wheel we had at the time, we found it slick to use at home and on the boat, as well.
