Do you have a Vulcan 12 on your C24 or C28?

[Posting this here as well as in the general 'chat' section, hoping someone might have helpful info:

I'm wondering if a C24 or C28 owner here has retrofitted their anchor platform with a Vulcan 12 anchor. And if you did, how well does it 'fit' when secured, how likely is it to whack the bow on retrieval in a bouncy anchorage, and/or any other issues that have surfaced. I'm assembling some equipment for a C248 that's under contract but 300 miles away from me, and upgrading the anchor is on the list. Maybe I'll get lucky and one or more of you can address the 'fit' issue before I get access to the boat some weeks from now. Thanks and best wishes.

The C24 and old 8.6' beam inboard C28 Cutwaters have a different bow anchor roller. I would limit the question to C24 only. The New C28 outboard has the same style roller but I believe it is bigger. Good luck with your anchor search. The Cutwater factory guys probably have the information as to what anchor to get. I would bet they are not using the Lewmar claw style anchor on their boat.

Hah! Good suggestion, Brian....and I'll bet you are right. And thanks for the clarification about the C28 model(s). After being pretty dialed in WRT just about every kind of cruising sailboat, I feel quite clueless about the model histories of the entire Ranger/Cutwater line-up. Which is one of reasons why this forum is so helpful, just as has been the 'As the Prop Turns' seminars. A large owner body with a factory supported forum is more the exception than the rule in my experience. It's one of my main reasons for feeling so good about purchasing the C248.

Just to put this thread to bed, I put a Rocna Vulcan 12 (26#) anchor on my C248 and it fit nicely. The one mod I made was to slip some 3/8" vinyl tubing over the stainless bow above the roller that captures the chain. This eliminates any chafe of the bow on the anchor's galvanizing after the anchor is brought home under tension by the windlass.

Also a related note: I purchased the Vulcan 12 from Camping World. It came fully wrapped & protected by Rocna in the same fashion as West Marine and was almost to the penny one half the WM cost. WM does offer a price matching policy for major on-line vendors like Amazon. I paid an extra $15 to CW for expedited ground delivery and it arrived in 2 days. I was surprised...and pleased.

For anyone that does have the older (2014) cutwater 28, what anchor recommendations do you have? I would like to go with something in the 30 pound range but not sure which anchors will fit. Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

I tried the 12. Doesn’t fit. Went with rocna ten. It just fits.
The 10 works great. If nervous out more scope out. This has more benefit than a heavier anchor.
