If so what size mushroom or dor mor?

Thanks!

We moor our 29 in a river. Usually mooring sizes are dictated by whoever controls that waterway. I'm not sure exactly why, but mushrooms and helixes are not used in Scituate MA where our mooring is located. Granite block, or with permission, concrete block is used. Here are the specs for Scituate MA.

Less than 26' Granite Block with 1 1/4" eyebolt 5/8 chain

26' to less 3000 lbs. 5/8” Galvanized chain

than 33' 4000 lbs Granite Block with 1 1/4" eyebolt 3/4 galvanized chain

So how come mooring on the east coast means tying up to an anchor/buoy and on the west coast it means tying up to a dock/slip? I've always wondered about that :?

Never heard of that before. When you tie up to a buoy on the W Coast, what do you call that?

I tie up to mooring buoys all the time in SoCal, and they’ve always been referred to as moorings by everyone I’ve heard!

Sorry I wasn't clear in the last post. On the west coast tying up to anything, dock or buoy, is called mooring. On the east coast only buoys are called moorings but tying up to a dock/slip is simply called docking.

In Southern California, mooring, is on a ball.

Officially, moored means secured to a dock or buoy, or by lines to land. Those who use a buoy should call it a mooring buoy, not just a mooring, but the language gets lazy over time.
