Does the list make the dipstick inaccurate?

Bought a factory trade in last December, having big fun, it's a R25 with A/C and a generator so it lists! I noticed the dipstick was indicating an overfill situation and wondered how much influence the list might have on the accuracy of the reading. I put a level on the vessel and found it to be about 7/8 of a bubble off so to speak. I had two buddys stand on the high side and took an oil reading with the boat level. This lowered the reading on the dipstick about 3/4 of an inch solving my overfill issue! Has anyone else found this? Does anybody else level the boat for oil level readings? Or did I just miss the memo where of course you're supposed to level the boat when you check your oil?

My Yanmar 4BY -180 has two oil dipsticks, one port which is easy to see and another starboard, set lower and sort of hidden by the heat exchanger. Could read both and take an average.
