Is the engine set up to put out full battery charge at idle (700 RPM)?

Thanks!

Most alternators do not put out their full rated charge at idle. There is an RPM/Output chart that you can probably find online. The charge at idle is sufficient for most situations but output is related to RPM.

Hey Sue,

After talking with Dave young of Volvo he gave me this data:

1500 rpm....Min 44A
2500rpm.....Min 81A

So to answer your question the faster your alternator is spinning the move of an output you'll have to the batteries. With that being said at idle you still have enough output from the alternator to charge your batteries. It might just take a bit longer to reach a full charge if the batteries are drained down low.

Thanks,
-Kenny
