Does anyone know what the 3" teardrop-shaped dome, fwd. of transom, under the keel is for?
Nothing I could find in "manuals".
Thanx

is it off to the side? It sounds like the thru hull for raw water side of the engine cooling. A picture would be able get you a firmer answer, probably.

Thanks, but an RT27 is an O/B, so not a cooling water outlet.
The dome thing is solid and mounted directly behind the drain plug, slightly to stbd. on keel.
Maybe a sensor/antenna?

I'm trying to understand what you're seeing. What I'm understanding is "something" mounted to the underside of your hull, forward of the drain plug, slightly to the starboard side of the keel. I have no appurtances on my hull along the keel either side... the closest thing is my raw water thru hull orifice 7-8" off the keel on the port side.

What's this teardrop something made of? Is it glassed into the hull or mechanically fastened?

When looking into the bilge, that area is approximately where my aft bilge pump is located. RT glassed in a mounting block to screw in the Rule pump strainer base. If they penetrated the hull, it could be a quick fix rather than going back to fiberglass repair.

O M G...I looks like a CLAM? Maybe attached itself in a location that just looks like it is supposed to be something?

On recent haulout I just took another look: there are actually TWO teardrop-shaped metal 'domes', with grill openings on fwd. portion. Mounted on either side of the far-aft keel, just fwd. of the transom. Partially covered with white-worms and barnacles but apparently grills are open enough to serve 'whatever' their function...Look like maybe raw water Inlets for AC or for head?

Puzzling function: not shown on any schematic, drawing or description in the 2019 R27 O/B Manual.

Ideas?

High speed pickups for your through hulls.

One is the raw water pickup for the head. Not sure what the second one would be on a O/B model.

Do you have a separate input for a raw water washdown?

If I remember correctly, one pickup will be for head and raw water washdown, the other would be for the AC, if you have AC.

A/C, Head, Genset, and raw water wash down inlets.

Mine has the same type of domes, 1 inlet for generator and 1 inlet for AC.

I believe that makes the most sense: 1=Head & raw water washdown, 1= AC and Genset intakes....although not shown in the R27 manual anywhere. Thanks to all!

Actually, the AC has it's own strainer while the multiport serves the head, genset, and raw water washdown.

Just wondering why you would not just close the hull valve on the other side of the strainer and see what doesn't get water. Then you would know which strainer went to which piece of equipment! Might help you down the road to trouble shoot a problem in the future! Anyway good luck and merry Christmas. Bob
