Filter has what look like two possible drains; one centered on bottom of filter. Number two offset on side of bottom. Which should I remove? If #2 what tool does it take? 17mm socket feels closest but I can't get it fully seated due to raised lip on filter. Both are tightly seated & I don't want to over torque.

#1 or #2 & what tool?

I think the filter your question is about is the filter mounted on the side of the engine compartment, not on the engine. This is a Raycor filter, to drain the filter remove the plug in the bottom center of the filter which is the lowest part of the filter bowl. I personally do not know why the other plug is there maybe someone else could comment on that.

Hi Tincup,

The filter has a bolt at the center of the bottom of the bowl, which is removed using a 14mm wrench or socket.

Thanks. Try as I might with 14 mm socket on 3/8 rachet cannot budge bolt. Can try using longer 1/2 breaker bar w/14 mm socket. Concerned about too much torque. Do they usually require serious torque?

PS having similar problem with fuel/water filter. Is this cmmon with new engines?

Any chance these items were serviced b4 delivery? Mine was in RT storage between when we bought it & delivery?

PSS. Replacement turbo works great. Boat now in dry storage but I expect it will be fine in Spring. Just need to complelete long term storage checklist

Hello,

Feel free to use as big of a wrench as you need, typically they are pretty tight the first time removed. The spin-on filter on the engine can be pretty tight as well, I prefer the metal band filter wrenches compared to the 'strap' style wrenches. It's very unlikely any service was performed before you took delivery of the boat.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Took fuel filter out of mounting bracket. Emptied fuel. Used compressed air to blow canister clean.

Cannot get fuel water filter to budge. Do not want to risk collapseing so thinking i will unbolt bracket and disconnect lines. Once out of boat I can get better leverage. Tim, see any problems with that?

That first time removal is a bugaboo. On my Yanmar I had to use two filter wrenches simultaneously. I also installed a petcock in lieu of the plug making draining much easier for future service.

Glad to know i’mnot the only one.

Like both sugestions.

The second opening up from the bottom of your Racor is for an optional water sensor.

I was working on my D4-260 yesterday and had the same issue with the fuel filter drain plug. I can't get that bolt to budge either! Brutal.

Can someone tell me which specific model of Racor is in the 2015 R25sc? I need to get a new bowl. The SS plug in the bottom fused with the cast aluminum housing and cannot be removed. I removed the entire filter assembly and put it in a bench vise to no avail. Was going to retrofit with a petcock after I got a bad load of fuel and need to drain off water quite regularly.

Thanks
