drain plug

Probably a silly question, (and I could probably find in the owner's manual with a little effort), but is there actually a "plug" that I screw into the drain plug hole located on the starboard keel side of my 2013 R 27 (like a traditional little 16 footer fishing boat)? If so, then I can't find it on my boat (just recently delivered). Did is get lost during shipping, or do I need to buy another "plug?" Or . . . ?

Yes there is a plug that screws into the hole. It will look like this

Just make it good and snug, overtightening will cause problems when you need to take it out.

Look in the cup holders. That is where the Kenny puts the plug when he pulls a boat out.

Ha ha. I read it wrong and thought that you couldn't find the hole. Posted photos of the location and how to find it.

Suggestion, when the boat is out of the water and on the trailer keep the plug out and the boat tilted so it drains towards the stern. If the plug is kept in and water accumulates in the bilge and the bilge pump fails (and it will eventually fail) you could have water accumulate high enough to cause real problems. And I have seen this happen.
Additionally, a little anti-seize on the threads will make a big difference when you want to remove it, especially if you are in the water for a while.

Consider grounding the drain plug assembly and use a copper based anti-seize to help keep the electrolysis at bay.

Always a good idea to head to the local plumbing parts bins and find a spare brass plug to put in your spares box for just in case. Some of us drill a hole and make a wire loop to clip it onto the boat keys, or at least make a flag and hang it on the trailer winch or someplace prominent, to remind us the plug has to be installed before backing down the ramp! It seems like most of us had to wait until our later years to afford the boat and no senior moments create challenges!

Beware that the brass plugs from the hardware store are hollow, whereas the plugs from the factory, and other places that sell plugs intended for boats, are solid. It would not take much corrosion to breach the hollow plug...but they are cheap and a reasonable short-term solution.

Please use BRONZE plugs, from marine hardware. Brass will disappear fast through electrolysis because it is not compatible with other metals, especially the fitting it screws into in the bilge.

MOST IMPORTANTLY - Put the plug in prior to launching! I have etched by my winch - "Insert Plug". You can surmise why I have that there. 😳
