Anyone ever done this on a newer 31CB? I have to deal with a wiring issue and need to drop the ceiling over the cockpit. I want to make sure I don’t do any unnecessary work or damage. Also, I’m considering this a reconnaissance run for eventually replacing the teak strips and vinyl pad with Amtico.

I have a C30. I just pulled the rear deck teak and it was just as simple as pulling the screws. Mine was not glued up. There was enough slack to lower it with lights installed.

Bob, I haven’t dropped the entire cockpit ceiling. But I did take off the teak strips to treat them with teak oil. Underneath are heftier screws that I appear to hold the ceiling panels to the hard cockpit top. You’ll notice that, over near the cabin, those panels “tuck” underneath the joint between the cabin wall and the cockpit hardtop. Looks to me like, to drop the panels, will take a bit of work to get them out from that joint. But it seems do-able.

Please, post your experience in dropping those panels, if you go for it. That will be of aid to anyone seeking to run any added wiring through that area, or deal with any issues with the wiring that runs underneath those panels. (for example, I keep thinking about running a power source to an aft camera that I would wire to a power from underneath the ceiling panels).
