We trailer a lot and wanted to stop bugs and any stones from hitting the windshield of our R-23. So I built a plastic cover for the rounded Windshield.

The plastic Sheet was not long enough to cut one piece so made two pieces which makes it easier to handle. Used the fabric cover that comes with the boat as a pattern.

Used White Duck tape to make a hinge so it is foldable. Then used 2" Velcro to connect to the windshield. Works great and keeps the cabin much cooler in hot weather.

Built a cover from plastic sheeting from Homedepot. https://www.homedepot.com/p/PLAS-TEX-1- ... /311314398. Cut with large pair of scissors.

No ice idea! Does it stay in place at interstate speeds?

Great mod! Keep us posted how it performs. My only concern is wind catching it and off it comes or as the velcro ages it holds less. One of the other mods I saw recently was a fabric on the forward section of the trailer but that only covers rocks/debris from the tow vehicle.

Works great have a few hundred miles on it at interstate speeds. Shield never moves It is easy to get it very tight against the windshield. So nice to get to the next location with a clean windshield. Plus I think it will help prevent any rock stikes on the glass.

Has anyone tried the same concept with velcro BUT using a sturdy material that will not tear from the wind, etc. I am waiting for my R-27 so I am not able to try it my self. It seems that the material could be rolled up and stored easier than the plastic sheets.

That is beautiful. Great job.

When trailering our RT31, I use the factory snap on windshield cover, but insert thin foil insulation under the cover.
I cut the foil to the size of each windshield. I thought this may reduce the chance of a rock cracking the windshield. This has worked well for 2000 miles of towing.

I also drape my forward facing Oversize Load banner around the bow pulpit and notice most of the bugs are picked up by the banner, rather than the windshield.

We had a canvas company make windshield covers for both our R25SC and our R29S. They used waterproof fabric with a cushioned backing in both instances (two different companies made them). Light color was used to keep down the heat while traveling. They were held on with snaps and on the sides and corners and a few on the top and bottom of the front. Worked perfectly for thousands of miles. Unsnap and put in the truck when you get to the marina after a long day on the road and no bugs to wash off the windows and no stone chips to worry about.
