This is a design that I used very successfully in my 2007 EC21 for the passenger foot rest. The "new" factory system in later EC21s seemed a bit cumbersome for me to construct and use. I wanted something very quick to set up, very sturdy, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.
The step is a standard teak boat step available at Hamilton Marine Part#: WTC-60502 (15x6x1/2) and most other marine supply outlets. I cut one end off it to size the width I needed. The stainless hinges are from a used folding generic swim ladder. The tubing for the step frame is 7/8 stainless steel rail tubing. The fittings are standard boat stainless rail pieces from Marine parts depot http://www.marinepartdepot.com. Two 7/8 90 degree MPD511 and 3 "T" MPD474B. They are also very generic. Fasteners are stainless
The entire folding footrest folds down quickly out of the way when the leg is folded under. The picture shows a pvc leg which I have now replaced with the proper 7/8 stainless tubing and a rubber end.
Using the one leg seems to work well and supports a person standing on the footrest.
