Has anyone instated an EGT gage on the 3YM30? I have been told that EGT is a critical value, more critical than engine water temp.

Thanks in advance

On a 3YM30 the criticality of EGT is questionable, at best. I am sure it is not worth the cost and would never pay for itself over the life-cycle of the engine. If one likes lots of gadgets, and if one ignores the sage advice to KISS, maybe.

If I were running a 750 horse engine I might worry, but then, the manufacturer probably would have put one there at the factory.

Thanks...was nt sure. The recent oil issue kinda emphasized the vulnerability of single-engine operations. I used to be a sailor and always had the wind.....

From my flying days an EGT gauge was best when you had a sensor coming off of each cylinder. This gave you a reading off of each cylinder and enabled you to detect a differential between them hence any issue with a specific cylinder. It was used primarily for proper leaning and also determining if you may have a valve problem. I question the value in a boating environment.

You might use an EGT sensor on a boat when using a variable pitch prop...adjust pitch until max efficient load on the engine is achieved for the speed required. Some larger yachts & commercial vessels use these. Probably overkill on a 21!!!

You are probably right on the overkill.......thanks everybody for the input.
