Engine compartment light- West marine clearance Item.

I wanted to install a durable light in the engine compartment. I did a search and found this West Marine 7" SS 2 bulb light in the clearance section of West marine cost-16.90 . I installed it yesterday ,good quality ,great price!




I also Purchased a Norcross Hand Held HP22PX Depth finder $56.00. I purchased that to use in the dingy for Gunkholing. It also has a water temp. I believe all prices included a extra 25% off clearance items. I usually find West Marine to be a bit pricy but some of their clearance items are priced right.

I too put a light in the engine compartment. I bought a 12v utility light on Amazon for $8.99. I replaced the incandescent bulb with a LED. I mounted it in the same place. The porch lights illuminate the front of the compartment fairly well. I also bought a $40 wireless backup camera and mounted it in the compartment. Using a heat gun, I was able to bend the plastic camera mount so I could mount it in the upper port corner aimed at the stuffing box.The monitor has a 7" screen and it works great mounted on the dash above the helm. (We'll see how long it lasts). I ran a power line from the second accessary switch at the helm. The compartment light, monitor, and camera are now activated by that switch. Running the power line was the most difficult part. Especially getting it through the aft bulkhead in the cave to the starboard cockpit locker. I use a spool of stiff stainless steel wire for those types of jobs. As usual I drew blood to appease the Boat Maintenance Gods 😀.

I agree that West Marine often has good clearance prices. Recently I bought my wife and I some foul weather boots and pants real cheap. And they will allow you to return clearance items. My usual online search for parts includes Amazon, eBay, West Marine, Home Depot, and then the discount marine stores.
