The engine hour meter stopped working on our R21 EC. Can these be repaired or do I need to replace the entire unit (RPM gauge and meter)? I've checked the wiring and contact points seemed fine i.e. no corrosion. My understanding is that they are a Hobbs meter so either record time when the ignition is on or when oil pressure is read i.e. engine is running. Can you tell me which method the R21 uses?
Update: I've traced the wire from the meter and it appears to go to the alternator, not the oil pressure sending unit. So, if the wiring is not the issue (I got continuity from the meter to the wire going in to the alternator), is the only option to replace the meter? If so, can just the meter be replaced or do I need to replace the tachometer/meter as a unit?
Regards,
Kevin
