Engine mounts and cutlass bearing

I purchased a 2010 R-25 last year and had a marine survey done, all was in good shape except a few small details and it was suggested that the engine mounts be replaced. That was done and after one season of only 40-50 hours I am being told now that the cutlass bearing needs to be replaced. My question is if the engine mounts were not aligned properly, could that have caused the cutlass bearing undue and premature wear ?

I'm not a mechanic but IMO the answer could be yes with a big "BUT". There is a very good chance that if your mounts were bad enough to warrant replacement then in all likelihood there was was already a misalignment that contributed to the cutlass bearing wear prior to your survey even though it was not picked up. 40-50hrs of use should not wear out a cutlass bearing unless the alignment was extreme which should have shown other issues like noticeable increase in vibration. Just my 2 cents worth.

Did you get the before and after alignment numbers when you had your mounts replaced?

Ditto on the above comment. And what makes you think it needs replacement? Usually you will get a bang when changing from forward to reverse or reverse to forward. I seem to remember that if you check with a feeler gauge .016 is max play between the shaft and cutless rib. Also, after the mounts are changed it is a good idea to check alignment after 50 hours. This is because there is often a little compression on new mounts.
