Engine Trouble Code

Hello.
I am having a check-engine light come on, and the dealer sent a mobile tech out to my boat to scan the engine computer. He told me that it is a throttle position sensor...what's involved with this repair? I'm now stuck waiting for a solution.

I can't help you on the throttle position sensor (TPS) repair, however you may get better info from the forum if you give us more pertinent details...like,

-WHICH engine model do you have?
-HOW MANY hours on the engine?
-Is there a HISTORY of previous error codes (of any kind - not just TPS)?

If you have a manual shifter and electronic throttle then it could be an earlier Yanmar. In our case we had to replace the entire throttle/shifter unit. There are two sensors on our unit and one went to ground when lightening struck our shore power. I had hoped that we could just replace the sensor and in your case you may be able to do that. The throttle unit is easy to remove and lift to disconnect but, again, if you do not have the same unit as we do there could be another solution.

Hi.

It's a 2010 r-25sc, so it's the Yanmar 4BY2 engine.

There are less than 50 hours on the engine, I just had everything serviced in the fall at the sales-yard and made sure they did everything I would need now and earlier than scheduled because of my distance to them.

There is no history of engine codes, everything runs great - oil pressure, coolant temps, battery charge - just the intermittent and completely randomly spaced check engine beeping. The engine computer says "check engine" and "press any button", it clears away and then comes back - sometimes immediately, sometimes 2-5 minutes later.

I've been talking with the dealer and they say they are working on a solution, but I've been stuck for going on two weeks with no headway.
