I have 4 black braid with 12" eyes at one one 1/2" diameter 20' long, and two thirty foot eight plait with 24" eye, 1/2" diameter, used to be white, to use as springs. colors make it easier to place properly. I prefer the eight plait for it ease of coiling and storing. My black braided is okay, but would prefer the plait. I have noticed that when the braided gets salted it becomes very stiff and hard to handle. I also carry two 3/8" braided black spring lines with no eyes about 25'. All these lines are nylon and I like the elasticity of the smaller diameter lines, 5/8" may be easier to hold, but I feel it may put too much load on the cleats on the boat when surging at a dock.
