I've seen some references in threads on this forum to the factory "LED option." And at the Seattle boat show, one of the Ranger Tug reps mentioned that they now install LED lights. But I don't know if that meant as un upcharge or standard. I see no LED option on the option list about it. Can anyone advise whether it might now be standard, or if not, what the LED option might add to the price of a tug?

I recall seeing a LED package for the R25SC and R27 in the Spares list sent out by Andrew some time back. The R25SC price was $191 and the R27 price was $283. Kenny will have latest pricing so Email him.

Personally, I bought a few LED lights from YachtLights when they were on special (actually they were free samples).

This was the SKU 30613H 2.2W LED G4 Bulb Side. They fitted nicely into my R25's overhead cabin light fixtures.

We installed the factory LED replacement set on our R-27. It all works great and significantly reduces the draw. But in retrospect, we thought we could get by without the whole package. Number one draw is the masthead light, which has to be on all night. Second are the two articulated lamps (four bulbs) in the cabin. We use these all the time and they were a good choice. We did not like the "tone" of the LED light when we replaced the halogens in the cabin roof. We decided to put the halogens back in and only use them at the dock or sparingly. Since the light in the head is used so little, it seems not worth the cost. And the two reading lights already have a low amp option on them. Really, replacing the masthead light and the two articulated lamps will take care of most of the draw.

Really helpful advice. I'll work with Kenny on the various options. Sounds like it would make sense and be cost effective to changeout just some of the key lights, per Jeff's suggestion. Thanks all!

If you already have your tug Marine Beam is a great resource for the LED lights. They even give Ranger owners a discount. Jeff is a great guy to deal with if you have any problems.

Nice to know there are good options for adding LEDs later. Thanks for posting some sources for aftermarket purchases!

Also be careful of inexpensive LED lights sold on ebay etc. they can cause interference with your VHF radio. Not necessarily an issue if docked or anchored and not using the VHF, but why take a risk.
