No, not Kent or Monroe, but Todd Shipyards. Some of us have had the opportunity to make one or more factory visits to watch the progress of our Ranger Tug's build. Probably fewer have been able to follow the construction of a Washington State Ferry.
WSDOT Ferries Division is building new vessels to replace its aging fleet. This video takes an inside look at Todd's (and supporting builders) construction progress on the Kwa-di Tabil Class (64-car) ferry Chetzemoka from June 2009 to January 2010. She's scheduled to splash this spring to head up to Everett Shipyard for outfitting and sea trials. By late summer she'll be one more WSF to keep track of on the Port Townsend/Keystone run. The Chetzemoka is WSF's first new ferry since 1999.
