“Fan belt noise”

… last Summer replaced the alternator belt on my 2013 R31 cb as a precaution. Old belt is in good shape and kept as a spare.

Towards the end of the season, I would start the D4 normally, idled normally… but once in reverse gear there was a classic old car “fan belt” noise. It stopped after a minute or so.

Mechanic is going to check it out soon. Has anyone heard this condition before? And solved it?

When did you last change belts, including timing belt? More likely, when did you check the tensioners?

I bought the boat a year ago.
It is now 12 years old with 670 hours on the D4. Not certain if previous owner changed the “timing belt”.

My Volvo-trained mechanic changed the alternator belt last summer. He found no issues with the tensioner at that time.

Have you experienced this “fan belt squeak noise” ? What was the cause if so ?

My D6 does not have tensioner, but did have a belt squeak. Just needed to retension the belt. A new belt will stretch a bit which will cause the squeel.
