If I were to purchase a filter for my R25 SC, where/how do I install it?

I built afilter for my 25sc.
2''PVC pipe, fittings and aquarium filter charcoal is all that is needed...works fine and I built it so I can replace the charcoal.
Big Orange is one that is supposed to work well http://bigorangefilter.com/
I cut the vent line and installed it between the tank and the vent hole as high as possible.
NEVER OVERFILL THE HOLDING TANK

Good Luck

Today's "Active Captain" email newsletter addressed this issue and included directions on HOW to make your own filter.

Sorry I don't know how to paste an entire email from my phone. I DO suggest you get on the Active Captain list so that you receive their weekly emails. They are generally quite informative. I have no financial or other interest in active captain by way of disclosure.

Check my photo album under mods and you will see a photo of the one RT installed on my boat and how it is attached.

I'll second David's advice. Good article in the active captain newsletter about this very topic. I, too, highly recommend getting that newsletter on a weekly basis.

I installed a Big Orange a couple of years ago, look in my album. It still has the original charcoal, the capacity is huge and it will last a long time. The manufacturer suggests replacing the charcoal every year but I will let my nose tell me when.

One stated advantage of the Big Orange is the bypass valve to allow air intake to the tank during rapid pump-out. This bypasses the filter and allows air to enter the tank easily. I do not know if this is a significant advantage or not.

Building your own from PVC is much cheaper. If I did not already have the Big Orange I would do this.
