Of barely marginal interest to most, I can report for the benefit of a few folks that I chatted with at Roche Harbor that I am now officially a boater of Washington State. I've had Eugene Oregon as my port of call for the past three summers, since taking delivery of my R-29, the RELIEF. I didn't register the boat in Oregon to beat the tax. Rather, I lived there when the boat was purchased. Now, having moved to Vashon Island, Washington, I have been coasting along on my Oregon registration and my USCG documantation. I was going to make the switch when my Oregon registration expired in Dec 2015. But the long arm of state government reached out to me and I, of course, complied with the request (demand) that I register in Washington. And since I had been using Washington waters, I would need to pay the "use tax." Well, I did all that and on Thursday Margaux changed the hailing port on the boat itself. Yes, it feels great to be legal. Have a good cruising winter. george The RELIEF

Be sure to change your hailing port with the coast guard. This will only cost you a couple of hundred dollars.... Don't ask me how I know.

By the way, your documentation is no longer valid if you have change the hailing port on your tug and not with the Coast Guard. Again, dont ask me how I know this...

Thanks. I did change the mailing address with the USCG documentation folks from Oregon to my current Washington address, That is now reflected on the document. However, I will contact them tomorrow to change the hailing port. george ("RELIEF")

This kind of hassle is exactly why I chose not to document the boat
