On our R29CB, I mounted one extinguisher in the stateroom and a second near the entrance to the galley/salon from the cockpit. I mounted the third in the cockpit inside the starboard locker where the shore power comes in and labeled the hatch accordingly. I wanted to keep the extinguisher out of the salt spray. I’m now rethinking my cockpit choice and am considering mounting the extinguisher at the aft corner, port side of the cockpit, near the stereo speaker. It’s a little sheltered there, and access may be a bit quicker in an emergency. 38 years as a police officer makes me think of these things.

What say you?

On My R29s, I mounted it in the Port aft cockpit, but near the raw water washdown outlet..... inboard of the speaker. It is protected there a little. It doesn't seem to get any spray and still looks good after 2 years...

I hope that helps.

On the R27, I stored mine, unmounted, inside the aft-port cockpit cabinet (some have optional extra refrigerator there) ...along with a pair of Nomex gloves (fireproof) and a sign on the cabinet door "fire extinguisher"

I physically mounted all three extinguishers so they will always be where I expect them to be in an adrenaline-filled moment. One's in the v-berth, one's in the entrance to the mid-berth across from the galley, and the third is mounted on the starboard side of the center locker deck underside, closest to me when locker is open. We have an outboard motor on the swimstep, an electrical grill in the transom and a Magma propane grill, rodholder mounted at port gunnel... locker deck in the up position acts as a shield to any potential fire at these three locations.

For what it's worth, USCG inspection checklist notes if mounted.
