We took Poopsy to Lake Powell this past mid week for our first cruising experience. The only problem I encountered was between the launch ramp and the slip. The diesel died. I fired up our Honda 5hp and continued on to the slip. After pondering the diesel problem, I realized that I'd replaced the Fuel water separator cartridge, and so I assumed that there was air in the line. There was, lots of air. I had to bleed the high point in the system at the top of the high pressure fuel filter housing, and then each cylinder high pressure line. The diesel fired right up and we put 25 miles and 5.4 hours doing the loop from Wahweep marina, around antelope point, through Warm Creed bay and then through the Castle Rock Cut back to the Wahweep marina. We spent the next 3 days poking around a couple of Powell canyons.
You can do some nice cruising at 6.5 mph and .4 GPH. Saturday, the 14th developed high winds and one to two foot waves very quickly around 3:00, so we had to beat back to the marine against a 25 to 35 mph constant wind with gusts of 10 more. The 21 handled the wind well and it was a fun ride back to the marina. My only fear was docking with a high south wind at my back and having to make a perpendicular turn into my slip. I got lucky though as a I caught a calm moment just as I was making my hard left into the slip.
High predicted winds for the next 3 days cut our trip short, but so far, the 21 classic is just as much fun as it looks. Too many people want to chat about it though. I'll post a couple pix on the face book site.
