Do any of the Florida owners slip their tugs all year in Florida?

I am considering buying a R27 and keeping in the slip all year. Is this a bad idea?

Does the AC work well on the hottest of summer days?

Is it difficult to obtain support for the boat? I live in Sarasota.

Does the boat run cool in the summer on ICW or are you hot at the helm or inside?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Tim

The problem in FL is growth and that sun beats up your canvas.
Use a lift or a diver to clean the bottom.
Everything else is fine.

Hi Tim,

In Florida you can leave her in the water year round if you like. Use a good bottom paint and keep the boat waxed, at least two to three times a year. We live in Stuart and leave ours in for about 8-9 months with no problem. As far as the A/C goes, it's adequate if you put covers on all the overhead hatches inside and tint the side window with any light tint. We are thinking about adding two extra vents to get more air moving too. As far as the helm goes, we are fine as we use the A/C most of the time we are underway if it is hot. Regarding the engine temp in the intercoastal, our boat will run at about 194-196 degrees at 3200-3400 RPM's on the hottest days. Ranger Tug support is great in Florida. We are super lucky to have Tommy Gaston at Seagate Marine in Stuart that handles service for a lot of Tugs thoughout the state and beyond. If you would like more information, send me a PM.

I have kept my R25 in the water since 2008. She gets hauled periodically and the bottom paint is done every 2 years. I have a diver who cleans the bottom and checks the zincs on a regular basis. In the heat of the summer the AC keeps the the cabin nice and cool. 70 on inside, on outside. You will need to keep drapes closed and cover the cabin hatches . Underway it is not bad. You are out of sun and with windows, door , and hatches open it is comfortable. If it starts to rain then start the generator, close her up and turn in A/C. Turn on the windshield wipers and enjoy. Other boats around you will be jealous .... I have not
Had any problems in finding any service support.

Thank you all for the prompt replies...they are greatly appreciated.

Frank...since you actually use your boat the way I intend to...would you mind if I call you or vice versa. My number is (860) 262-3518. I am interested in your experiences here in Florida, good places to use the boat and sun wear and tear on your vessel.

Thank you!

Tim

We're in Melbourne and have ours in the marina year round. I'll PM you with a phone contact if you'd like to talk.
