Do you mean the Volvo E-Key? Those are basically just an NFC tag and don't have any batteries in them

Programming is involved. It requires an existing key to accomplish. If you do not have any key it requires a factory mechanic. You can also reprogram your existing key(s) to a new code. I had to do that when one was stolen.

If you have a currently programmed fob, and the new fob, you do it yourself on the boat. I don’t remember the procedure but it was pretty easy using the directions. I’ll try and find them again. If I am successful I’ll post them here for you.
