My younger son really like sitting up on the bow. Given that our hopeful boat will have that little fly bridge, it's not a huge issue, but I would like to give him the option.

Anyone have a recommendation for good portable seats up there? I was thinking those sort of stadium seats but I don't want anything digging into the gel coat. Nimbus makes some branded ones (we almost bought a 305) for that purpose.

Thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

Would a bean bag chair work?

I had seen some of that style on Amazon, but those ones are less expensive and almost certainly come out the same Chinese production line.

Thanks!

One thing to keep in mind: on most days, I wouldn't consider it safe for a child or even a teenager to be on the foredeck while underway at more than ~5 knots. Maybe on an exceptionally calm day, up to 7 or 8 knots.

Also keep in mind that there is really no safe way to quickly get to or from the foredeck while in any kind of chop or traveling at speed with wakes and traffic.

These boats are not really designed for traveling on the foredeck. Other boats, yes, and perhaps in other conditions than we frequently see in the northwest. And I say this as someone who spent most of his childhood on the foredeck of various sail and power boats.

For sure. Mostly contemplating for anchor or super slo-mo.

I did buy the West Marine more expensive ones and I have to say they are well made. They don't have any metal protrusions on the bottom so they don't scratch the boat. The important thing is on my R23 the front has a sun shade overhang and this seat just is high enough to rest up against it. The one I have folds flat and i just saw the new ones fold in half which may make for easier storage. Clearly the type to buy for a temporary use.

We bought these chairs for the bow of our Whaler (at anchor only) and love them! No scratches, comfortable, easy to stow. Totally intend to use them on the bow of our R27 while at anchor to make a nice seating group with the bow lounger. Might seem pricey, but they have lasted 3 years now and are still like new.
