Good Afternoon,
I have recently purchased a 2008 Ranger R25, beautiful vessel and we are very excited to be a part of the ranger family.
In my continued research I have additional questions regarding my stove and a possible replacement.
The existing stove is the Kenyon 2 burner one is electric and the other is the butane fuel burner. I am considering replacing the Kenyon with a unit that I say on the West Marine web page but I have concerns about electrical draw and the existing wiring.
Is it possible to put in a Force 10 Three Burner Electric Cooktop, 120 volts? I do not know the amp draw but I do know the maximum BTU is 1800.
Is this to much for the existing wiring? Even if we use only one or two burners at a time?
Thank you very much for the previous help and for your anticipated help.
Sincerely
Jerry Eagle

Hi Jerry,

According to the West Marine and the Defender sites each burner is 1200 Watts. That is 10 Amps at 120 volts for each. Without knowing the existing wiring on your boat I can't say if the wiring is sufficient. Another concern however would be your intended use. Using this cooktop would be OK when on shore power. However, when not on shore power you would be dependent on your inverter and batteries or generator if you have one. What is the power output of your inverter? If it is 1500W like many of the other boats then you will be limited to one burner at a time when using the inverter. In addition, the draw on your battery will be roughly 10 times the 120 Volt draw or 100 Amps per burner! Given this I would recommend only a single burner unit and to run the boat engine or a generator while using the cooktop to keep the batteries charged.

I opted to leave out the stove and cooktop on my boat and use an induction cooktop. This one uses much less energy and can run on the inverter if ever needed. Thinking that I really don't want to cook inside I also have an outside barbecue for most of the cooking

In a small space like a boat, I just don't like to fill the air with cooking and the steam it creates especially with all the wood around. Same applies to rvs in my opinion.

I greatly appreciate all the information from everything everyone!!!!!!
This is a great avenue for information.
Thanks to all you tugnuts......
