I want to put an anchor on the bow anchor roller and use the integral pin to secure the anchor. With the mast stepped, the forestay uses the pin as the attachment point to the bow. How an I supposed to then use the pin for the anchor? Please accept my apologies in advance for this probably simple questions....THANKS

I don't have a picture to show you right now. My mast wire is on the starboard side of the roller in a hole that appears to be drilled for that purpose. It seems to me that your classic R-21 is older than mine. I believe mine was the last one before the 21-EC came along. Perhaps Andrew can give you an idea about that. I will photograph my roller and pst some photos later today.

I took a couple of better quality photos last night, mostly looking for some other way to attach the forestay to the bow. It looks like the pin is the only way, which negates using it for securing the anchor (or required dismasting...) Thanks in advance for any advice out there. By the way, Nellie May is a 2005, pre-EC model.

Using your picture. Here is the location of the hole on my roller for the mast forestay. I hope this is clear.

I have an '05 as well, and if your anchor roller's axle is hollow (like mine) you may be able to use an "eye"bolt and a cople of heavy washers and bolts to make a suitable point to attach the forestay. Use stainless parts only and try to find an Eyebolt that is welded or heavy enough to take the strain without opening.

I am a little concerned about the asymmetrical load imposed by doing the hollow roller axle thing. I contemplated some kind of sling thru the hollow axle to achieve loading symmetry, but that would require passing the anchor/rode thru the loop of the sling. Even thought the forestay loading might not be too much to handle, the bracket is already bent a little and might not be able to handle the asymmetry.

The whole thing seems to be poorly designed, kinda like the forestay was an afterthought. Maybe I need to just not use the roller and pitch the anchor over the side...

Does anyone out there know the construction of the bow "post"...is it solid? hollow? cored with something?
It would be nice to be able to drill and trhough bolt a padeye there.

Better yet, an extension to the roller bracket - kinda like a bowsprit - with the forestay attachment out on the very end...

i am sorry that it took so long for me to post pictures. It has been raining and cold in Spokane. (The ski places are reporting more snow are open this weekend.). I finally got the mast up on the boat and took these pictures.

Thanks

Mark
