Hi TugNuts crew,

I’m having a bit of a puzzle with the forward berth on my Ranger Tug. Specifically, the two center sections that fill in the berth space don’t seem to stay put like they should. Sometimes if I sit on them, they just collapse down into that open space underneath, which is less than ideal.

On my old boat, I had two different pedestals: a short one to support that center section when using it as a bed, and a taller one when you wanted a table there. I’ve noticed the Ranger Tug doesn’t come with that short pedestal. So my question for the group is: has anyone found a short pedestal solution that works for this purpose? And secondly, has anyone rigged up any kind of brace or support to keep those center sections stable?

For reference, I have a 2026 R25.

Thanks in advance for any tips or ideas!

There should be pretty substantial lips around the border of the u-shaped portion of the bed that those go into. I've never had an issue with them coming loose on our R-25 except if you only put one of the two filler pieces in while underway. They stay solid if both the aft and forward filler pieces are in place, but if you ever are underway without the aft filler piece, the table filler piece will usually pop out while at speed.

We had the same problem on our R25SC. I took a piece of 1/4 inch plywood and cut a strip 4 inches wide and just long enough to wedge in between the sides to keep our center sections from falling.

There was a rumor they may have changed the design of the berth along with all the other changes to finishes and fabrics, and hinged the head door so that it does not conflict with the berth. Is that right? On the older design (e.g., my 2024), the cushions lock into place pretty securely when both are inserted, but perhaps the new design works differently. Can you share a photo of the berth in your '26?
